Brian G. Kahler, 75, of Boiling Springs, died Thursday, May 9, 2024.
He was born to Thomas and Marian Kahler on September 22, 1948 in Lancaster, PA. Brian graduated from Penn State University ’70 Anthropology, and remained a devoted and rabid fan for the remainder of this life.
Brian was a founding member of the Arcona Reel Band and delighted thousands of audiences with his mellow tenor voice, his animated bodhran (Irish frame drum) playing, and his lame yet funny jokes.
Brian worked for the Department of Health and Human Services for 33 years, retiring as an Executive Assistant to the Deputy Secretary for Children and Youth.
Brian cared deeply for people and spent much of his retired years volunteering in the south Allison Hill neighborhood at the Common Ground Community Center, which is part of the Gather the Spirit for Justice.
Brian loved music, but more than that, he loved his family. He leaves behind his wife, Sparkie Radcliffe; brother, Steve Kahler and his wife Susan; his sons, Tom Kahler, Geoff Kahler and his wife Kristy; his daughter, Julie Slaybaugh and her husband Rob; his grandchildren, Laura Slaybaugh and Liam Slaybaugh; and countless friends who he thought of as family.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of Transitions Healthcare in Gettysburg and Grane Hospice for their excellent care of Brian in his final years.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 1:00pm at the Penbrook United Church of Christ, 56 Banks St, Harrisburg, PA. The Reverend Karin Stork-Whitson will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Brian’s memory may be made to Gather the Spirit for Justice, care of Austin Cheers, Treasurer, 805 Green St., Harrisburg, PA 17102.
