Bruce Alexander Sailes, 67, of Hanover, PA, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 13, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.
Born January 13, 1956, in Omaha, Nebraska, Bruce is survived by his wife Helen Paine, children; Tiffani and Jason, stepchildren; Dara Baxter and husband Jason, Laurel Lunn, and Dillon Lunn and wife Rebecca. Grandchildren; Isabella Sailes, Lorraine Sailes, Grant Baxter, Elona Baxter, and August Lunn. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Byrd Sailes and father William Sailes.
Bruce received a BS Degree from Howard University in Washington, DC and a DDS from Craighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He served in the United States Air Force as a Dental Officer stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska from 1982-1985. In addition to being a dentist in the Air Force he also was a dentist in private practice. Once retired, he did computer programming, clock repair and restoration, and innkeeping with his wife Helen at their bed and breakfast in Hanover, PA.
In his spare time, he loved antique clock collecting, repair, and restoration along with historic home restoration and repair, jazz music, billiards, and wood working. He was a Military aircraft enthusiast as well. Bruce belonged to the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (a frequent contributor to NAWCC forum) and the American Civil Liberties Union.
A Celebration of Bruce’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 19th beginning at 11 am at Brandenburg & Stein Funeral Parlor, 3045 Baltimore Pike in Gettysburg. Friends are asked to join the family at 10 am for a time of remembrance.
Military Honors will conclude the service.
