Herbert Kurt Dubin, 90, of Fairfield, PA passed away on January 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband to Ann Lethbridge Dubin for nearly 65 years.
Herbert was born December 18, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY. His family moved to Ashton, MD two years later where he they expanded the nursery business that was established by Herbert’s grandfather Philipp Kempff.
Herbert attended Sherwood High School and graduated in 1952, after which he spent four years serving in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War. He was stationed in the North Atlantic, on the North Carolina coast and in Baltimore, where he patrolled the Chesapeake Bay. He specialized in navigation and was honorably discharged in 1956.
After his service in the Coast Guard, Herbert continued with the family nursery and demonstrated his expertise as a grower, landscape designer and horticulturist. Herbert was ambitious and innovative, as many of his greenhouse management systems were recognized for their success. He also built two homes and established a wholesale nursery.
In the 1970s, Herbert moved into farming and agricultural development. He spent the last 35 years of his life developing and farming a beautiful homestead in Liberty Township, PA.
He is survived by his loving wife Ann; his two beautiful children, Tamara Dubin Brown (Gary) and Mark Phillip Dubin (Kelly); brother Bobby William Dubin (Sandy); and four grandchildren (Sydney, Elisabeth, Marleigh and Finnigan).
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elisabeth Dubin, and sister Marian Dubin.
A private interment will take place at a later date.
