James Ross Anderson, 88, of Hanover, PA, was called to his heavenly home by his Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at home with his loving wife of 7 years, Karen by his side. Born May 23, 1935, in Reading, PA, he was the devoted son of the late Russell and Margaret Anderson.
Jim graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1954, enlisting in the United States Army faithfully serving his country for 38 years, retiring having achieved the rank of Colonel (C-4). During his time in the service, he flew Chinook Helicopters, was a sniper in Korea, and taught many associated classes, retiring during Desert Storm. After retiring, he worked at various jobs, keeping himself busy and to be around people. He held jobs at McDonald’s, Hanover Shoes, Hershey Stadium as a Security Guard, and a car salesman at various car dealerships. Jim loved his community and friends, preparing meals at Hanover Council at Churches (HACC). He had a great passion for cars, which he owned many over his lifetime. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his “card” buddies and their families. He also appreciated his time as a mentor to teens at Emory H. Markle Intermediate School and South Western High School. Jim and Karen enjoyed playing games, doing puzzles, and watching football. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his daughter, Nicole, and other family members.
In addition to his wife, Karen (Zimmerman, Horrell), he is survived by his daughters, Nicole Kelley and husband Dale, Jenny Tharp and husband Brent, and Bobbi Doan; granddaughters, Dakota Tharp, Braylyn Tharp, Autumn Horrell, Delaney Doan and Jayla Marty and husband Cypress; great granddaughter, Sage; and niece, Kathy Boyer and husband Pete.
