On February 5, 2023, Janet lost the battle she valiantly fought for so long. With her three daughters by her side and throughout her struggle, she left this earth in peace.
She had so much more to do, see and experience, but time wasn't on her side. She enjoyed traveling to the beach, day trip excursions, shopping for antiques, and spending time with the ones she loved and held so dear, including her pets. She often reminisced of times past and speculated as to what the future could hold.
She leaves behind two siblings, Loretta "Jean" Kress of Hanover and Woodrow "Woody" Wilkins, Jr. of Orrtanna. Also surviving are her daughters, Candace Frye of Hanover, Kathleen Diehl and her husband Thomas of New Oxford, and Samantha Howard of East Berlin. A dearly loved niece, Loretta Purkey of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, held a special spot in Janet's heart, as did her great-grandson, Joseph Miller of New Oxford. She loved and felt love by grandson, Jeffrey "Mike" Gladfelter, Jr., his partner Allison Spauding; their son, Evan Gladfelter all of Hanover; and granddaughter, Krystina Fowler and her daughter, Aliya of Hanover. She held a very special spot in her heart for another great-granddaughter, Dicie Frye of Hanover, although time or circumstance did not permit them to be as close as they once were. RJ Fetrow, great-grandson of Hanover, didn't have much opportunity to become close to his grandmother, but the love he expressed through his actions was felt and noticed by her.
She was predeceased by her parents, Woodrow Wilkins Sr. and Ota Wilkins; as well as two grandchildren.
Time is peculiar thing. Everyone believes a tomorrow is ever present, sadly it is not. No amends or misgivings can be obtained by this loss. Time waits for no one. Regardless of where fault lines lie, it matters no more. Time has ceased for this wonderful soul. She will forever rest in peace.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Brandenburg & Stein Funeral Parlor, 3045 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg. Interment will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, February 16th from 7-9PM at the funeral home.
